On the way to mama Furahah's house

Making dinner with Alphonsine

On Tuesday, Makenzie and I made a traditional Burundian dinner with our friend Alphonsine. We made Ugali, Ubuswage (made from cassava flour) and a vegetable sauce with mukeke (whole fish). It was wonderful to share a meal and some fellowship while we learned about Burundian culture!

Sunday at Muramvia

This is in front of the newly built building for the church that I went to on Sunday. They do not have enough money to buy a roof so they are still in their old building. They ask for your prayers.

The Love Tree

This is one of the traditional places to get wedding pictures in Burundi. Except instead of taking pictures under the love tree, they take pictures across the road at a car dealership ;)

I'm HERE!!!

So I decided to try to set up a blog to keep everyone updated on my time in Burundi. I have had so much to take in the three days I have been here.
Today is Saturday. On Saturdays the roads are closed in Burundi until 10:30. The president has declared it a time to clean the roads. So basically it is a manditory day to sleep in :)
This afternoon, I went to a Burundi wedding. The ceremony was similar to a ceremony in the states. After the ceremony, the entire party travels around the city to take pictures at special places. Then, at least an hour later, the wedding party returns for the reception. Quite an interesting experience.
Well I better go. . . tomorrow is church. I've been told to prepare for a 3hr+ service
Miss everyone~Whitney
